Ham, Egg & Chips — Classic Comfort Food

A hearty plate of crispy golden chips, fried  eggs with delicious runny yolks, and thick slices of ham. Serve it with  baked beans for extra comfort, or add grilled pineapple for a sweet and savory twist!

Ingredients

For 2 servings

  • 4 thick slices of  cooked ham
  • 4 eggs
  • 600–700 g potatoes
  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil, for frying
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Optional

  • Baked beans
  • 4 pineapple rings
  • A little butter or oil for grilling the pineapple

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick chips.

Place them in cold water and rinse several times to remove excess starch. Drain and pat them thoroughly dry with a clean towel.

2. Cook the Chips

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large, heavy saucepan.

Carefully add the chips and cook until they are tender but still pale. Remove and drain.

Increase the heat, then return the chips to the hot oil and fry until golden, crisp, and delicious.

Drain on paper towels and season with salt.

3. Warm the Ham

Heat a large frying pan over medium heat.

Add the ham slices and cook for about 1–2 minutes per side, just until warmed through and lightly browned around the edges.

Transfer to a plate.

4. Fry the Eggs

Add a little oil to the pan if needed.

Crack the eggs carefully into the pan. Cook until the whites are completely set while keeping the yolks slightly runny, or cook longer if you prefer firm yolks.

Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

5. Optional Pineapple

For a sweet and savory version, place pineapple rings in a hot frying pan.

Cook for about 2–3 minutes per side, until lightly caramelized and golden.

6. Optional Baked Beans

Warm the baked beans gently in a saucepan over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally.

7. Assemble the Meal

Divide the crispy chips between two plates.

Add the warm ham slices and fried eggs.

Serve with baked beans, grilled pineapple, or both.
