Before whitening, it is especially important to address cavities, cracked teeth, gum disease, or significant tooth sensitivity. Whitening does not repair damaged teeth and may make sensitivity worse in some people.
A simple daily “pearl-white” routine is therefore easy: brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss once daily, drink water after staining foods and beverages, avoid smoking, limit frequent exposure to highly pigmented drinks, and use a properly formulated whitening product if you want additional stain removal.
Remember that healthy teeth do not have to be perfectly white. A natural ivory or slightly yellow shade can be completely normal.
The safest way to achieve a brighter smile is not to attack your enamel with strong acids or abrasive ingredients. Protecting the enamel you already have is the key to keeping your teeth looking healthy and bright for years.
