Many viral posts claim that mixing ingredients with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) can erase wrinkles, fade dark spots, or create “glass skin.” In reality, Vaseline itself does not remove wrinkles or lighten pigmentation. It works by sealing moisture into the skin, which can make fine lines temporarily appear less noticeable because the skin is better hydrated.
If you’re looking for a simple homemade moisturizer, here’s a safer option:
Vaseline & Vitamin E Overnight Moisturizer
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Vaseline
- 1 vitamin E capsule (or ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil)
Instructions
- Place the Vaseline in a small clean bowl.
- Pierce the vitamin E capsule and squeeze the oil into the Vaseline.
- Mix until smooth.
- Transfer to a clean, airtight container.
How to Use
- Wash and dry your face.
- Apply your regular moisturizer first if you use one.
- Dab a very thin layer of the Vaseline mixture over dry areas before bed.
- Wash your face as usual in the morning.
For Dark Spots
Instead of relying on homemade mixtures, ingredients with better evidence include:
- Niacinamide
- Vitamin C
- Azelaic acid
- Daily sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)
These are more likely to improve uneven pigmentation over time.
